Suresh Kumar was born on December 18, 1962, in Kochi, a port city in the Indian state of Kerala. His father, Velayudhan, joined the British Indian Navy before India’s independence in 1947. He continued his service in the Indian Navy post-independence, eventually retiring as a commander. His mother, Baby Velayudhan, was a teacher before becoming a homemaker.
